Fetternear House (former Bishop's Palace)
Yet another view... The main part of the house was built by the Leslie family in the 16th Century and the house was extended and rebuilt several times over the centuries until it was gutted by fire in 1919. Fetternear House
The mansion of the Leslies of Balquhain has become a total ruin since the disastrous fire of 1919, and little remains of the former medieval Bishop's Palace that once stood on the site. However, ongoing archaeological excavations have since uncovered remains of the front wings of the former Palace, and parts of the later mansion that had previously been demolished.

Fetternear House
Fetternear House (also known as Fetternear Palace or the Bishop’s Palace) is a large, medieval ruin found in countryside just west of Kemnay, Aberdeenshire. The house was originally built in the early 1200s as a palace for the Bishops of Aberdeen, undergoing rebuilding and enlargement over the following centuries before becoming the seat of the Leslie family in 1566. A fire in 1919 brought the mansion’s inhabited life to an end, though sheep still graze around the crumbling walls. The mansion is fenced off and only viewable from the front, but several architectural features are still visible, including the fine coat of arms belonging to Patrick Leslie above the front entrance.

Fetternear House
The main parts of the former Leslie mansion and in particular the frontage date from the late C17, whilst the east wing to the right is a rebuild of 1570, after the estate had been gifted to the Leslie family in 1566. The battlemented features, and the west wing to the left, date from 1818-19 and 1841-44 respectively. The black plastic sheeting on the right are coverings for the ongoing archaeological dig.
