Leaving Inverurie
The 1619 hrs departure to Aberdeen, in the form of a Class 158 diesel unit, leaves on the 'wrong' track, but will use the distant crossover to reach the left hand track.

This train terminates here
Class 158 2-coach unit at Inverurie, having just arrived from Aberdeen to where it will shortly depart again. Both tracks through the station are signalled for use in either direction, so the more convenient platform with the buildings can be used as appropriate. The right hand platform would originally have been used by branch line trains to Old Meldrum. The station buildings are Listed Category B.

Preparing to Depart
The gentleman standing beside the cab, chatting to the driver, is the guard/conductor/ticket collector/train manager - I am never sure how to refer to them these days. The station was designed by James Lowson and Patrick M Barnett of the Great North of Scotland Railway, in 1902. It is Category B listed. See http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB46174 for details. The canopy over the platform is of note.

Weighing machine, Inverurie Station
A rare survivor of what used to be a common feature of stations. The wooden case is traditional, ensuring that the machine could not be tampered with.
