Pittulie
The village from the shore. All the houses here are built with their gable ends to the sea, to give them more shelter from storms from the north. Originally they would have been built without windows in the gables. Protection from the elements was more important than light indoors.

Pittulie Main Street
There isn't much more of Pittulie than just the one street. The houses are built with their gable ends to the sea, thus being less exposed to the north and to winter storms.

Traditional Fishermen's Cottages
Note that the gable-end faces north and the sea. This affords some degree of shelter from northerly gales

High Street, Pittulie
This is the east end of the single street that makes up Pittulie. Here, the houses are aligned with their long elevations to the street.

Pittulie
Pittulie pre-dates neighbouring Sandhaven, which has outgrown its older neighbour. Almost the whole of Pittulie is a category C listed group of buildings.

Craig Haven
This must have been the only place where boats could be hauled ashore, as the rest of the shore at Pittulie is rocky. I speculate that it is not an entirely natural harbour.

Village Hall
This is obviously a former kirk, and a notice on the other side says it is a community hall. The map also says 'hall', but I wonder if perhaps it is no longer in use as such?

Pittulie
Pittulie is contiguous with Sandhaven, but is much older, with traditional cottages mostly gable-end to the sea.
