Looking east from the Crown Street junction, the granite facades are still imposing despite the ground floor occupation by ubiquitous chain store shops and offices. The bunting celebrates the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Union Street at the Crown Street Junction.
Aberdeen's main thoroughfare has lost its commercial supremacy over the years as shopping malls have been built in neighbouring areas like George Street. Ground floor banks and shops still remain but space remains above to rent. There are now civic plans for another shopping mall on the old railway sidings by the bus station.

100 Years of Public Transport in Aberdeen
The bus, decorated to celebrate 100 years of public transport in Aberdeen, passes the Commercial Union building at the corner of Union Street and Union Terrace. This grand granite building is locally known as the "Monkey House", a well known meeting place for Aberdonians. It has a Doric porch and columns. The flags are celebrating the Aberdeen International Youth Festival. Beyond are the tower of the South Church and the spire of St Nicholas Church (the "Mither Kirk").

The Langstane
The origins of the Langstane, now firmly embedded in a wall at 10 Langstane Place, are uncertain; it may have been part of a stone circle or an ancient boundary stone: http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/20073/details/aberdeen+10+langstane+place+lang+stane/ .
