The bus, decorated to celebrate 100 years of public transport in Aberdeen, passes the Commercial Union building at the corner of Union Street and Union Terrace. This grand granite building is locally known as the "Monkey House", a well known meeting place for Aberdonians. It has a Doric porch and columns. The flags are celebrating the Aberdeen International Youth Festival. Beyond are the tower of the South Church and the spire of St Nicholas Church (the "Mither Kirk").
