Lochside Stores, Lerwick
How this small general shop has survived, within sight of Lerwick's main supermarket (currently owned by Tesco), is something of a mystery to me.

Lochside Stores, Lerwick
A rather old-fashioned-looking general store. Note the tiny extent of double yellow lines in the foreground. The rest of the lines have been tarred over and not renewed.

Entrance to Clickimin Leisure Complex, Lerwick
One of the more obvious results of Shetland's oil dividend is the Clickimin Leisure Centre, as it was known on the 1980s when it opened. The entrance leads into the original building containing the sports hall, gum and changing rooms. Over the years extra components have been added: the swimming pool (the edge of which is on the right), the bowling hall (not visible in the photo), and most recently the squash courts (the edge of which are on the left).

Clickimin Leisure Centre, Lerwick
One of the main oil dividends in Shetland is the Clickimin Leisure Centre. The red-roofed building is the original leisure centre, but swimming pool, bowls hall and squash courts have all been added. The Ward of Bressay and the main TV transmitter for Shetland are in the background.

Clickimin Leisure Centre, Lerwick
The leisure centre is on the right, with the running track on the left, while the campsite is in the foreground. Hayfield House, once outside the Lerwick burgh boundary, is on the slope. The Knab is the headland that can be seen in front of the island of Bressay, with the TV transmitter on the Ward of Bressay.
