Baldersby St James
This tiny village was built as an estate village for Viscount Downe of nearby Baldersby Park [now Queen Mary's School] in the mid 19th century. Both the cottages and church are by Butterfield.

Footpath leading from Baldersby St. James
No, I can't see it either. The public footpath between Baldersby St. James and Baldersby runs straight across this field. The farmer who actually owned the land, was present at the time, and requested me to follow the boundary fence. Both options seemed unattractive due to the muddiness of terrain, so I abandoned the idea altogether

Approaching Baldersby St. James
Following the field boundary on a public footpath towards the village - dominated by the church dedicated to St. James the Great. It has an unusual pencil thin tower surmounted by an even thinner spire - a feature that can be seen from miles around.

Baldersby St James church
There is a benchmark cut into the south facing wall of the church. It is located on the first buttress to the right of the church tower, immediately right of the drainpipe.
