This south-westerly facing photograph across Malton Gate was taken from near the south-western end of Image The large building on the right is the Village Institute and headquarters of the Parish Council. The small building next to the Institute is The Old Cottage and houses a hair dressers. Next, after a short lane (Chapel Lane, out of shot) there is the Methodist Church. On the far left of the picture it is possible to make out a shop with a sun-blind, this is G.R.P. Hill – Butcher. Across the road (on the left and out of shot) from the hair dressers and church there are the Image The stream on the near left is flowing south and is one of the water courses for Thornton beck. The stream, in this southerly facing photograph, is one of the water courses of Thornton Beck and is flowing in the direction of shot. The viewpoint of this photograph is opposite (on the other side of the road) an alley called Archway Lane, which joins Malton Gate at this point. The private dwellings in the photograph are Sunholme and Bishops Garth (farthest).
