Old Milestone by the A64, west of Sherburn, Scampston parish
Carved stone post by the A64, in parish of SCAMPSTON (RYEDALE District), West of Sherburn, just West of entrance to Sherburn Lodge, in front of house with white gate, on North side of road. Malton tombstone, erected by the District Council in the 18th/19th century.
N.B. The photo was taken in front of Sherburn Lodge, but the original location, the listed location, and the stone's position from 2016 was by the entrance to Sherburn Lodge Cottage at GR: SE 94979 76755

Old milestone
This old milestone on the A64 from the Sherburn Lodge area has been moved slightly and reset at the entrance to Sherburn Lodge Cottage. It has lost all its white paint in the last 20 years. The route from Malton to Hunmanby is shown on Jeffrey's 1771 map. A painted legend may have been STAXTON 4/MALTON 11
