Businesses in St George's Parade, Wolverhampton
It has taken a long time for these retail units to be taken up, but recently the neighbouring veterinary practice has taken half of it.

Businesses in St George's Parade, Wolverhampton
The nearby veterinary practice has expanded into the nearest premises, the frontage of which has been partly preserved from the superb old Hughes and Holmes hardware shop. Apartments occupy upper floors.

Regeneration in George's Parade, Wolverhampton
Various inner city regeneration projects are making very slow progress, and some areas are real eyesores. Here, however, the earlier dilapidated units have been replaced by a smart structure containing "luxury" apartments and business units. Hopefully these will be open, lively and thriving very soon. At the far end, is the detached veterinary practice, and this side of it the original early Victorian façade where the excellent Hughes and Holmes store was has been assimilated into the new building. Mount Bethel Amez church
This occupies what used to be the Salvation Army Hall. The building features the same red brick and buff terracotta as the adjacent Central Library, but in a more sedate style. Unfortunately the ground floor terracotta has all been painted over, and the original lettering chiselled off http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2811411.

Mount Bethel Amez church (detail)
The remains of the lettering 'Salvation Army' in the terracotta of the facade can just be made out below the sign. The lamp bracket appears to be an early, if not original, feature. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/783110for the full facade.

To be Preserved? Wolverhampton City Centre
The demolition of the former Hughes and Holmes superb hardware store in George's Parade has not included the old frontage, so I wonder if it is to be restored and integrated into the new development. This is next to Image] Can anyone with an image of this frontage before the scaffolding was erected please add it to the site. Update January 2010. Building finished during 2009. Image]
