Wrickton Mill
One of the best mills in Shropshire and in working order. The present mill building dates from the 18th century with 19th century additions and machinery. The overshot wheel drove three pairs of stones and, at one time, a sawmill.

Wrickton Mill - the stone floor
One of the best mills in Shropshire and in working order. The present mill building dates from the 18th century with 19th century additions and machinery. This is the stone floor. The two sets on the left (one unclothed) flank the mainshaft and are driven by a great spur wheel. The one on the right is driven by an auxiliary layshaft drive. The crown wheel is just visible behind the stairs and drove a sawmill (gone) to the left and the sack hoist to the right. The sackh hoist drive pulley and belt are also by the stairs. The mill stone in the centre has stone dressing tools arrayed on top of it. There is a sack attached to the sack hoist chain on the extreme left.

Wrickton Mill - the gear room
This is how the room would have more or less appeared when milling. For demonstration purposes the double doors on the left were open with a chain in front of the main gearing. The door on the right gives access to the bevel gears driving the third stone. The diagonal corner is so that it clears the stairs. To the right of the door is the tentering adjustment for the third set of stones. There is a meal spout out of sight to the right and one in the distance beyond the double doors. The square hole in the middle would also accommodate a meal spout.

Wrickton watermill - gearing
This shows the pitwheel, wallower, great spur wheel and two stone nuts. The great spur wheel has wooden teeth so that something can give if there is a jam. The stone nuts have been 'jacked' out of engagement. The bevel gear bottom right drives the third set of stones via a layshaft. This mill is an example of National Mills weekend at its best and is a delight to visit.

Wrickton Mill - stone floor
This shows the main shaft with its crown wheel in front of a clothed set of stones. The pulley and belt closer to the photographer drive the sack hoist above. There is the bed stone for the second set of stones at the photographer's feet with a damsel extending upwards.

Inlet pipes and valve tank at Wrickton Watermill
Three substantial pipes feed into the valve tank at the watermill. The tank distributes the water flow evenly across the wheel and allows the volume of water and power of the wheel to be controlled from inside the mill.
