Pub across the River Severn
The pub is called 'The Lion'. From where the photo was taken you would either have to cross at the ferry or, if it isn't in service have a long long long detour via Bridgnorth.

The former Lion Inn in 2008
Unfortunately for the lovers of good pubs it seems The Lion Inn closed a year or two ago and has been converted into residential cottages. But the sign remains which is a nice touch. No doubt the higher visibility of the fairly new looking and nearby River & Rail pub didn't help.

End of private road
Opposite the National Trust's car park is the start of a private road (which is also a public footpath) that leads to a caravan park and various houses including the former Lion Inn. This view is looking back from the former inn. By the white house in the far distance the road turns sharp right, but if you keep straight ahead there is a path leading down to the River Severn. Here on this path can be found the grave and memorial plaque for a much loved pet dog.

Private road
This private road (also a public footpath) commences opposite the National Trust's car park for the Hampton Loade Ferry. It serves several cottages and in this photo, just past the white house, it turns sharp left and terminates, giving access to a caravan park and various houses including what was the former Lion Inn. There is a footpath down to the River Severn too.

Inn Sign of the former Lion Inn
It seems for several years attempts were made to keep the Lion Inn running as a pub, but now it has been converted into residential cottages. Fortunately the sign remains as a reminder. The good news is that the nearby River & Rail pub continues in existence.

Along this quiet path leading down to the River Severn can be found the grave of Sadie, a much loved pet dog.

Memorial Plaque for Sadie (by a dog's grave)
Probably you need to be or have been a dog owner to fully empathise with the poignacy of the verse for this clearly much loved dog. May she continue to rest in much deserved peace.
