West Mercia Police Information

West Mercia is the fourth largest geographic police area in England and Wales. The force area is divided into five territorial policing areas, which match the boundaries of our local authorities.

While West Mercia is predominantly rural, it also contains some densely populated urban areas and many market towns. To ensure we strike the right balance between addressing national and local policing priorities, the force focuses its activities on three priority areas:

  • Serving
  • Protecting the public
  • Making the difference

Priorities

1 Nov 2015

Members of the local community, both from residents and local businesses, have made contact with the Safer Neighbourhood Team for advice on how to tackle anti social behaviour in the town.

Response (1 Nov 2015)

30 January 2019.  Safer Neighbourhood Team Officers are well aware of the areas in the town where anti-social behaviour takes place and will endeavour to conduct patrols when possible.  The purpose of these patrols is to deter anti-social behaviour, or to take action against those involved in such behaviour.

09 February 2019.  On Saturday there were a series of incidents of anti-social behaviour and disorder caused by a gathering of youths from the town and the surrounding area.  Concerns were raised by a number of members of the public and a number of additional Police Officers were deployed to the town.  As a result of their behaviour, two youths were arrested and dealt with appropriately by Officers.  The increased numbers and presence of Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) had a deterrent effect and there were no further incidents of disorder reported.

16 February 2019.  Following last weeks disorder, a greater number of Police Officers and PCSOs were on duty in Bridgnorth and patrolled the town throughout the day and evening.  There was no repeat of the previous weeks disorder.

02 March 2019.  Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team continue to patrol areas where there have been previous reports of anti-social behaviour.

04 April 2019.  Safer Neighbourhood Team Officers have been conducting patrols on foot and in Police vehicles at locations throughout the town in an effort to deter any anti-social behaviour.  There were three reports of anti-social behaviour in the High Street during the last month, all involving youths making their way home after school.  Police Community Support Officers have attended on each occasion and dealt with the matter appropriately.

27 April 2019.  There was a single report of youth related anti-social behaviour in the town during the two week Easter Holiday and also an incident featuring a motorcycle being ridden in a field alongside the River Severn.  In both case, Officers attended the areas of concern within a few minutes, however, those involved had already left and there was insufficient detail in the descriptions to identify the offenders.

28 May 2019.  Safer Neighbourhood Team Officers have continued to patrol areas where there have been previous incidents of anti-social behaviour.  There have been three incidents of anti-social behaviour linked to dogs that have not been under the control of their owners, three incidents linked to the anti-social use of vehicles and four linked to the behaviour of youths in the area.  Officers have dealt with each of these reports in an appropriate manner.  In a number of cases, there was insufficient detail reported for those responsible for the anti-social behaviour to be positively identified and dealt with.

25 June 2019.  There have been reports of youths behaving in an anti social manner in a number of areas of the town.  When Officers have been available they have attended and dealt with the incident in an appropriate manner.  Officers have been conducting regular patrols of areas where previous incidents of anti-social behaviour have been reported.  There have also been reports of cars being driven in an anti-social manner on the Severn Park.

23 July 2019.  Safer Neighbourhood Teams have been conducting patrols in the area, concentrating on locations where there have been previous reports of anti-social behaviour.  The school holidays have started this week so there may be an increase in the number of reports of such behaviour.

24 August 2019.  Patrols have been conducted throughout the town, focusing on those areas where there have been previous reports of anti-social behaviour.  This has included the steps from the Grove Estate, the Severn Street Car Park (including the area around the Job Centre) and liaison has been conducted with our partner agencies.
