Worcestershire royal Hospital - a hardy survivor
No, not the building. The waste bin in the foreground. Despite a good 2+ months of demolition activity this bin remained intact and upright and to the best of my knowledge is still there a year later, although no longer on a path to anywhere. It was bitingly cold morning with a dusting of snow but the heavy stuff was on its way. Here is a later view showing the bin again - Image

Charles Hastings Educational Centre, Worcestershire Royal Hospital
This centre is independently owned and incorporates the George Marshall Medical Museum - a registered museum. It is a well equipped and comfortable facility and I have both attended and given many lectures there.

Charles Hastings Postgraduate Medical Education Centre
This was built by private subscription and is run as a charitable institution on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site. It includes an excellent medical museum and visits can be arranged. Charles Hastings was a founder member of the Provincial Medical and Surgical Association and this later became the British Medical Association. This was founded in the old Castle Street WRI site and part at least is listed. Charles Hastings and his association is probably Worcester's greatest medical link.

Demolition site - Worcestershire Royal Hospital
This single storey building was about to be demolished and is seen on a sunny lunchtime. I was making sure of some photographs before demolition.

A chilly demolition site
The surviving half of this single storey block at Worcestershire royal Hospital is seen through the Heras fencing. No trespass was involved. My Lumix has a lens that easily fits through Heras - it gives you an almost there feeling but without any risk.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital - demolition
This had been a kitchen area for some of the estate staff but by now had lost its roof.

Worcestershire Health & Care Trust - liquid nitrogen store
This little locked metal cabinet containing a liquid nitrogen Dewar appeared suddenly and I spotted it on one of my regular meanders. My best guess is that this is associated with the newly relocated Worcestershire Integrated Sexual Health service and that the liquid nitrogen is to be used for treating genital warts. The warning notices state to keep well ventilated and not to work alone. One of the dangers is hat if there is rapid ebullition for any reason the nitrogen can displace oxygen in the vicinity and cause an asphyxia death (it has happened). When we stored it indoors it was always kept separately in a room with a noisy low oxygen alarm. This outdoor ventilated container strikes me as a much better idea. The adjoining grey strip down the wall is a lightning conductor.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital - going!
About half of this single storey block had been comprehensively demolished by then. This was part of the old isolation hospital that had been on site before the development of Newtown Hospital in the 1970s. There is now no trace of this earlier era in Worcester's healthcare history. I got a reasonably good set of the demolition over the first quarter of 2018. Following this my interest switched to work on the combined heat and power plant and then the new link bridge and Aconbury East refurbishment. As of February 2019 the CHP plant has changed little since April 2018, the link bridge is in use and having finishing touches and the Aconbury East refurbishment seems to have some way to go with work concentrating on infrastructure at roof level and new windows.

Worcestershire Breast Unit building works
The unit is being extended at both ends but this is the smaller of the two extensions. The timber and steel framing for the roof had gone up recently.
