Sandbrook Service Station
Directly opposite Upholland High School in the north of the square. You used to be able to get petrol here but not any more. It's a sign of the times that more and more of these smaller franchised petrol stations are closing as a result of price competition from supermarkets. The MOT and service station thrives on!

Upholland High School
Upholland High School (the old Upholland Secondary Modern) is in the north centre of this square. This is the north side of the school, the main entrance being about 100m further down the road to the south.

Gantley Avenue
Council flats in the centre-east part of the square. There's quite a range of residential housing types in the eastern half of this square.

Looking north across the Y shaped junction near the centre of the square. The mini-roundabout was built in 2004 and doesn't appear on most maps yet!

Newfold School - Orrell
On St James' Road Orrell.
In the 70's the school was called St. James' County Primary. I went there between 1969 and 1976. The headmaster at the time was Mr Alker and at the end of each year the Cadman Cup was awarded to the best boy and girl of leaving age. Needless to say - I didn't win :)
