Nostell Priory: rear of the main house
The Palladian mansion was built in 1736-1750 for Sir Rowland Winn, 4th baronet. Architects were James Paine and Robert Adam. Listed grade I (list entry 1262071).

Crimson Room, Nostell Priory
This comfortable room was used by guests. The Chippendale furniture includes the elegant clothes press, the chairs and the gentleman’s dressing table.
This room and the Breakfast Room were damaged by a fire in 1980. Faithful restorations of the wall paper and fabrics were based on small surviving samples and Paine’s drawings.

Nostell Priory, Wragby
Both James Paine and Robert Adam worked here, but the exterior doesn't quite fulfil the promise of their stature. Still, it is imposing and impressive. Paine was executant architect, overseeing a design by James Moyser, as building began c1733 when he was only 17. A plan to build a pavilion at each corner never came to anything, but c1776 Robert Adam added a north-east wing (cut off in this photo, sorry Robert) which while characteristically refined, undermines the symmetry. Grade I listed.
The house and park are in the hands of the National Trust.
