An attractive school building, looking especially good in the afternoon sunshine.

Modern terrace houses, Chadwick Lane, Lower Hopton
These are staggered so as not to be quite so obviously a terrace. They replaced several small cottages, possibly condemned as unfit. Back in 1849 the township map showed three properties.

North Street, Lower Hopton
The modern houses on the right were built on what seems to have been a yard belonging to property on Chadwick Lane. Then there are three larger-than-average terrace houses of relatively high status when they were built, and then four ordinary terrace houses up to the development along the two side streets shown in Image and Image

Chadwick Lane, Lower Hopton, Mirfield (SE198194)
The area in this photo, at the southern end of Chadwick Lane, was Chadwick Fold in 1850. One of the old buildings was Chadwick Hall, a farmhouse. This has now been replaced by a housing development built in the 1990s.

Footpath between Chadwick Lane and Oakfield Drive, Lower Hopton, Mirfield (SE198194)
This view is looking eastwards towards Oakfield Drive. This footpath is marked as a field path on the 1850 map, and was enclosed when the land to the NE was built-up in the 19C and the section in this photo is named as a continuation of Chadwick Lane on the 1960s 6" map. However it is not marked on the current map as a public footpath. Fortunately when the hillside to the SW was developed recently the path was preserved.

Renamed by the council, but still Chadwick Lane on the OS map. This is looking in the opposite direction to Image, and the path has been resurfaced.

Looking down towards the school. The pair of houses is the only one to be built on the western side in the late 19C. The row on the right runs between Chadwick Lane and North Street.

Side street off North Street, Lower Hopton
This is the upper of two streets comprising a high-density development built probably for mill workers in the 19C. The four on the left were through houses on the 1933 map, whilst those on the right were built as two blocks of four back-to-back houses with a space between for privies. There were no gardens or back yards, although the end houses seem to have acquired some private space. There is foot access to Chadwick Lane at the end of the street.
