Traffic and Road Safety - Dewsbury & Mirfield
A number of key traffic and road safety issues have been identified across the Dewsbury and Mirfield ward. These include speeding and failure to stop at junctions in residential areas; unsafe use of e-scooters on pavements; anti-social driving: high-powered vehicles, engine revving, noise pollution; drug/alcohol-related driving offences; and ongoing nuisance from off-road bikes.

Anti-Social Behaviour  - Dewsbury & Mirfield
There has been a noticeable increase in youth-related anti-social behaviour across public spaces in Dewsbury and Mirfield. Reports indicate and increase in youth-related ASB in public spaces; gatherings with suspected cannabis use causing community distress; criminal damage to parks and public amenities; and theft and public order offences.

Drug Activity - Mirfield 
There has been an increase in drug dealing in public areas, impacting community safety.

Shop Theft - Dewsbury & Mirfield 
There has been an increase in reports of theft from local businesses and retail premises and reports of begging near business premises, causing concern for staff and customers.   • Increased patrols in hotspot areas under Op Trimburg.
  • Targeted days of action with warnings and enforcement.
  • Worked with council on signage and traffic calming.
  • Off-Road Bike Team deployed – multiple seizures and prosecutions.
  • Dozens of vehicles seized for road offences.

Anti-Social Behaviour  - Dewsbury & Mirfield

  • Issued ASB letters, Community Protection Warnings, Community Protection Notices, and Early Action referrals.

Drug Activity - Mirfield 

  • Executed multiple drugs warrants across Dewsbury and Mirfield.
  • Seized tens of thousands of pounds worth of Class A and B drugs.
  • Disrupted criminal networks involved in drug supply.
  • Developed community intelligence into enforcement action.

  • Working with Town Centre Team and business owners in the lead up to the Christmas period to share intelligence and take enforcement action.
  • Offering crime prevention advice and support.
  • Issued Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs).
  • Our dedicated Town Centre Team provided increased visibility and engagement to deter theft and reassure businesses.
  • Officers conducted revisits to identify offenders early so arrests could be made promptly.
  • A recent Business Crime Week of Action resulted in multiple arrests for theft.

  • Targeted days of action with warnings and enforcement.
  • Worked with council on signage and traffic calming.
  • Off-Road Bike Team deployed – multiple seizures and prosecutions.
  • Acting on community intelligence, NPT Officers have recovered several vehicles that were abandoned, involved in crime, uninsured, or reported stolen and subsequently found.
     

Anti-Social Behaviour  

  • Increased patrols and youth engagement initiatives.
  • Partnered with Kirklees Youth Outreach to signpost positive activities.
  • Ward officers have continued to attend community meetings for reassurance.
  • Over the past three months, 22 out-of-court outcomes were issued in the form of yellow letters - 20 to young people and 2 to adults.
  • Over the past three months, 15 Community Protection Notices (CPNs) were issued to adults, and 3 Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) were issued to youths.
     

Drug Activity

  • Developed community intelligence into enforcement action. 
  • Over the past three months, five drug warrants were executed, resulting in four positive outcomes with suspects arrested and investigations ongoing.
     

Shop Theft

  • Town Centre Teams are working with business owners over the busy shopping period to share intelligence and take enforcement action.
  • NPT Officers have issued Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs) to known nominals. 
  • Our dedicated Town Centre Team are increasing patrols and visibility throughout the busy shopping period to deter crime, provide reassurance to businesses, and ensure the public feel safe.
  • NPT Officers have conducted revisits to identify offenders early so arrests could be made promptly.
  • Police Contact Points have been set up in high-footfall areas to reassure businesses and the public, while offering an opportunity for residents to discuss local issues and receive crime prevention advice.

  • High visibility patrols are being conducted on Lowlands Road, Mirfield due to increased anti-social behaviour in the park.
  • Increased patrols have been implemented on Reservoir Street, Dewsbury Moor due to anti-social behaviour and drug use.
  • Increased patrols have been implemented on Navigation Gardens, Dewsbury due to ASB vehicles and drug use.

     

Drug Activity

  • Developed community intelligence into enforcement action. 
  • Warrants continue to be conducted across Dewsbury and Mirfield with more planned throughout the year.
  • Days of action planned for targeted areas in March and April.

     

Shop Theft

  • Town Centre Teams are working with business owners to share intelligence and take enforcement action.
  • NPT Officers have issued Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs) to known nominals. 
  • Our dedicated Town Centre Team are increasing patrols and visibility to deter crime, provide reassurance to businesses, and ensure the public feel safe.
  • NPT Officers have conducted revisits to identify offenders early so arrests could be made promptly.

  • Our dedicated Town Centre Team are increasing patrols and visibility to deter crime, provide reassurance to businesses, and ensure the public feel safe.
  • Officers continue to revisit reported shop thefts promptly to secure CCTV evidence and identify suspects at the earliest opportunity.
  • Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices have been issued to repeat demand nominals involved in begging outside retail premises.
  • Contact points are being actively utilised to provide crime prevention advice and create opportunities for face to face engagement between officers and the community.
