Old milestone
Looking west along A62 Leeds Road towards the A644 junction after a shower of rain. Visiting dogs take advantage of this pavement feature! The legends are sloping because Huddersfield & Heckmonddwike are too long to fit neatly horizontally. When these milestones were set up the backing stone was left bare but many have been painted, white, black or grey as the years have passed.

Old Milepost by the A62, Leeds Road, Mirfield
Metal plate attached to stone post by the A62, in parish of Mirfield (Kirklees District), Leeds Road, opposite No. 17, Mirfield, near "Three Nuns" PH, on wide pavement, on South side of road. Brayshaw & Booth iron casting, erected by the County Council in the 19th century.
