The Abbey Flyer in full flight!
Colloquially known as the Abbey Flyer, this train travels up and down the single track branch line between Watford Junction and St. Albans Abbey railway stations. This view was taken looking southwards from the Bucknalls Lane overbridge in the wooded setting of Bricket Wood Common, with a northbound train approaching the overbridge and Bricket Wood railway station.

Bricket Wood Common
Bricket Wood is an area of ancient semi-natural woodland in the Colne Valley between Watford and St Albans. It is seen here on a very dull and gloomy afternoon.

The Building Research Station (3)
A view in early 1997 of the low-energy office block (building 16) nearing completion. The stacks on the face of the building provide ventilation in warm weather; note that three of them await their cowls. Yet to be fitted are glass louvres in front of the windows - these could be angled either to reflect sunlight away from the building if it was too strong or reflect light into the building on duller days. (Photo taken from the first-floor exterior gallery of building 18.)

The Building Research Station (4)
The front of "Bucknells", the original Victorian mansion which became the Administrative centre for BRE when it moved to Garston. Taken on a rather gloomy and damp day, alas.
