+
Martin Turpin (Ch/Insp)

As of the 17th of July 2023, it is honour and privilege to step into the role of Chief Inspector for St Albans Community Safety Partnership (CSP), including Harpenden and London Colney.

As a Police Officer for almost 25 years, I have a passion for policing and genuinely believe that partnership working is key to providing the best service to the residents of St Albans.

I believe I bring a wealth of experience to this role. I have had the fortune to have worked within a variety of specialist roles throughout my career, including Professional Standards, intelligence, Safer Neighbourhood teams, Work Force Development, Force Control Room along with various investigative roles. I have also specialised as a firearms commander, public order commander and negotiator.

Being a police officer is a huge part of my life. I am proud to wear the uniform and I truly believe in what Policing and Hertfordshire Constabulary stand for. I fundamentally believe police officers join the service to have a positive impact on their communities and make a difference. I have maintained this ethos throughout my career, and I still care deeply about doing the right thing and helping people. Its important to me that we know our communities and they know us. Policing was built on the principle that we "police by consent" successful policing relies on communities working with the police and sharing information, and vice versa.

Priorities

11 Mar 2020

To tackle vehicle related offences in the area, including Watford Road and Chiswell Green. Offences include speeding and use of mobile phones while driving, HGVs driving on restricted roads and illegal use of e-scooters.

Response (3 Apr 2024)

This remains a local priority for the Neighbourhood Policing Team. We will continue to look at locations raised by members of the public via our feedback system 'echo' and respond to them accordingly. Officers continue to carry out roadside speed enforcement and utilise the speed enforcement vans. The main locations of this activity are A5183 Frogmore, London Colney High Street, Courses Road Colney Heath and Tippendale Lane Park Street.
This work is on-going.

30 Apr 2021

To reduce vehicle-related anti-social behaviour at Starbucks, North Orbital Road, Chiswell Green and the surrounding roads including racing on the A405 and A414. To reduce the negative impact this is having on the lives of people in the surrounding areas.

Response (2 Apr 2024)

The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to conduct patrols to deter anti-social activity, as well as respond to reports from the public and work with local businesses to help manage issues.
Work with Starbucks and Herts County Council has resulted in significant investments in updates and improvements to the area that help prevent unwanted activities, including new barriers and CCTV.
