Panoramic view of West Coast Main Line near Carpenders Park, with Up express
View NW from Oxhey Lane bridge, south of Carpenders Park, towards Watford Junction and the North; ex-London & North Western trunk line, Euston - Rugby - (Birmingham) - Crewe - Carlisle - (Glasgow). The express is on the Up Fast line, the Down and Up Slow lines being beyond; the nearest (4th-rail electrified) lines are the Euston/Broad St. - Watford Junction lines, which until 1982 also conveyed LT Underground (Bakerloo Line) trains beyond Harrow & Wealdstone. The express is the 06.35 Workington/09.55 Morecambe to Euston, headed by 'Coronation' 4-6-2 No. 46240 'City of Coventry'.

View northwards, as LMS 'Patriot' 6P 4-6-0 No. 45546 'Fleetwood' hurries the 09.05 from Llandudno towards Euston (with a mixed bag of stock), north of Hatch End near Oxhey Lane Bridge.

Euston - Manchester express north of Hatch End
View SE, towards Euston: West Coast Main Line. (See also Image]). The 15.45 Euston - Manchester London Road was running in three parts that Summer Saturday. This part had smart-looking Stanier 'Jubilee' 6P 4-6-0 No. 45674 'Duncan' (built 12/35, withdrawn 6/67 - one of the last). The electric lines to Watford are parting below to pass under the road bridge at Little Oxhey Lane. With Harrow Hill in the right distance, this looks like country - but it wasn't.
