Old Milestone by the A573, Golborne Road, Winwick
Carved stone post by the A573, in parish of WINWICK (WARRINGTON District), Golborne Road, opposite the junction with Hornby Lane, by gateway, in pavement, on West side of road. Lancs. CC stone triangle, erected by the County Council in the 19th/20th century. Inscription reads:- : WIGAN / 9 MILES : : WINWICK : : WARRINGTON / 3 MILES : Grade II listed. The Parish Church of St Oswald, Winwick
The parish church of Winwick is dedicated to St Oswald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oswald_of_Northumbria ), a seventh century king of Northumbria who is believed to have been killed in the Winwick area. The oldest part of the present church dates from the early 13th century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Oswald's_Church,_Winwick ). It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1278428 – National Heritage List For England, Church Of St Oswald The main body of the church is currently closed because a serious infestation of Death Watch Beetle.
