The parish church of Winwick is dedicated to St Oswald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oswald_of_Northumbria ), a seventh century king of Northumbria who is believed to have been killed in the Winwick area. The oldest part of the present church dates from the early 13th century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Oswald's_Church,_Winwick ). It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1278428 – National Heritage List For England, Church Of St Oswald The main body of the church is currently closed because a serious infestation of Death Watch Beetle. Restoration work is in progress to remedy this (http://www.stoswaldwinwick.com/ - St Oswald’s Church web site).
