Altrincham cinema
There was a time - fifty years ago - when the Altrincham area boasted four cimemas: now, this modern creation is the only choice. Its predecessors were the Hippodrome and the Picture Theatre in the town centre; the Regal in Broadheath, to the north; and Hale Cinema to the south. Each was quite distinctive in character and had the feeling of a real theatre, unlike this contemporary example of anonymous design, which could be mistaken for a filling station.

Tesco Extra, Altrincham
This megastore must have drawn lots of shoppers away from the historic town centre. Old maps show that its 2.7ha site occupies an area formerly covered with a school and housing. Unfortunately they seem not to have been recorded for this site before demolition.
