The Rotunda & The Battleship Building, Paddington
The Rotunda, in the foreground, is the European Design Centre for Nissan. It was designed in 1968 by Paul Hamilton as a road vehicle maintenance depot for British Rail. The same architect designed the Battleship Building, seen beyond with mosaic-clad concrete tower. In the background is 2 Kingdom Street, part of the new Paddington Central development. View from canal towpath.

Former Paddington Maintenance Depot, Harrow Road
A remarkable building ingeniously slotted into a narrow space between Harrow Road and the Westway. It looks like a ship sailing between the two. The curves and continuous windows are more than a little redolent of the Moderne style. Built for British Rail, 1968, by Bicknell & Hamilton. A plaque records that it won a Concrete Society award in 1969. Grade II* listed. BR didn't stay long, it was offices for a time, but currently I think it's empty. Pevsner commented that demolition was proposed in 1990, thankfully its listing in 1994 put paid to that (one hopes).
