Perpetual adoration
Nun before the altar at Tyburn Convent, Hyde Park Place. She will be replaced by another Sister in due course so that the Blessed Sacrament - which is exposed in the monstrance above the altar - will be attended continuously, twenty-four hours a day, throughout the year. This is an enclosed order so, except in an emergency or special circumstances, the Sisters never leave the Convent. This is an other-worldly enclave only five minutes walk from the ultra consumerism of Oxford Street. The noise of traffic from adjacent Bayswater Road seldom intrudes: only the intermittent rumble of passing Underground trains, below, disturbs the perfect peace and calm.

Tyburn Convent (6)
It is hard to believe that the peace and tranquility of this chapel exists only 200 metres from the hectic traffic and shoppers of Marble Arch. The nuns hardly ever experience this outside world: they only leave the confines of the convent for necessities such as medical treatment. Their life is one of constant prayer and contemplation. Here, one of the sisters takes her turn before the altar where the Blessed Sacrament (Eucarist) is exposed for devotion (spotlit below the crucifix). Such contemplation continues, by rota, every hour of the day and night. The chapel is open to visitors of any faith, or none, who may want some quiet time alone or to attend morning Mass (07.30 or 10.00 at weekends).
