Refreshment area at Perivale Wood Open Day
Perivale Wood is ancient woodland maintained as a memorial to the naturalist Gilbert White by the Selborne Society http://www.selbornesociety.org.uk . It is open to the public one day a year when bluebells are in bloom; this used to be the first Sunday in May but has been brought forward a week as the flowers bloom earlier because of global warming.

Yellow Meadow Ants nest, Perivale Wood
This grass covered mound in the Little Elms Meadow area of the Perivale Wood nature reserve is a nest of the Yellow Meadow ant, Lasius flavus. An information board in the meadow and the nature trail leaflet say that these nests occur only in old grasslands. They can extend a metre down into the soil.
