Canal feeder
The shallow ditch is marked on the 1:25000 Ordnance Survey map as "canal feeder". It's a remnant of a channel that took water from Ruislip Lido to the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal, linking with sections of Yeading Brook. https://londoncanals.uk/2013/02/05/the-grand-junction-canal-feeder-from-ruislip-5/

Welcome to Yeading Brook Meadows
Yeading Brook Meadows Local Nature Reserve is one of the most important grassland sites in Greater London. It is cut for hay in late summer, with some areas being left uncut to provide overwintering sites for invertebrates and small mammals. Skylark breeds in the hay meadow and can be seen flying overhead in summer. Yeading Brook Meadows is managed by the London Wildlife Trust on behalf of the London Boroughs of Hillingdon and Ealing. This is just north of Kingshill Avenue. A close up of the information board can be seen at https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5822333 This was an extremely hot day at the end of June so I cannot imagine rugby is being played at this time. The Hillingdon Trail passes through the woodland on the far side of these rugby pitches. The Hillingdon Trail is a 20 mile path through Hillingdon's countryside from Cranford in the south-east to Harefield in the north-west. See https://archive.hillingdon.gov.uk/article/8730/Yeading-Valley for more information.
