Hayes and Harlington railway station
It's fascinating to compare this shot with Ben's taken from virtually the same viewpoint in 1994 Image Although the railway infrastructure remains much the same, apart from the overhead electric cables, the addition of the footbridge and a welcome lick of paint to the platform canopy roof, the scenery on either side has changed beyond recognition, with large blocks of flats obscuring the view to Southall, and the large silo on the right now demolished. The train is a down fast although judging by the waiting passengers the platforms here are now back in use.

A very wet day at Hayes & Harlington station
The Great Western Railway (GWR) opened its broad gauge tracks between Paddington and Taplow on 4th June 1838. The station was opened in the 1860s but at that time was just known as Hayes. The last broad-gauge services were operated in 1892. This view is from the down slow platform looking back in the direction of Southall which is the previous station. The two fast lines are away to the right beyond the railings. To the left Platform 5 is a bay terminus platform, which is used for a daily half hourly shuttle service to Paddington. A train is waiting for the return to Paddington and this will stop at all stations. It rained all day and was as wet as it looks here.
