Gatehouse to Richmond Palace
The gatehouse to the former Tudor Richmond Palace. The Palace was built by Henry VII, replacing the earlier Sheen Palace which was destroyed by fire at Christmas 1487. Both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I died here. After Charles I's execution, Richmond Palace was sold by the Commonwealth Parliament and by the Restoration of Charles II in 1660 little of the building was left.
