Northern section of Brook Lane North, Brentford
Seen from the footbridge joining it to its southern section on the other side of the railway line. The elevated section of the M4 can be seen at the end of the road, towering above which is one of the vast advertisement hoardings that line that section of motorway.

York Road, Brentford
Seen from Windmill Road, looking towards Brook Lane North. The huge poster, advertising mobile phones, is not there for the benefit of York Road's residents but is designed to catch the eye of travellers on the parallel M4 motorway. It is fixed to the Alfa Laval building which has been derelict, awaiting redevelopment, for many years. At one time the building was occupied by the Brentford Nylons business, a well-known retailer in the 1970s, associated with the fashion for nylon bed sheets.

Great West Road, Brentford
Here, to the north of Brentford town centre, the M4 is carried on a long flyover above the A4. The flyover dates from 1964 when it was built as an extension to the Chiswick flyover to the east. Had planners had their way in the 1960s and '70s much more of London would have had this appearance accommodating an extensive network of urban motorways. The white car, incidentally, parked in a bus lay-by was on Transport for London business.

Advert on the side of an office block, Brentford
The block appears to be disused, and presumably is making a good revenue from the advertising rather than rental
