Midwinter sunset, seen from the scarp south of Pembroke Lodge
View from the gardens of Pembroke Lodge, a day or two before the winter solstice. The snaky branches seen against the blue sky could only belong to an oak. Richmond Park is a National Nature Reserve.

Cycle path around Richmond Park
Well, that's what it was made for but it unsurprisingly proved popular with people wishing to walk without getting their shoes muddy. After an unfortunate incident in which a dog was killed in a collision with a bike pedestrians were given right of way and a speed limit of 10mph imposed. There is a sign on the road saying that the 20mph limit also applies to cyclists but there isn't one saying the 10mph limit also applies to runners.

Residual snow
Even though it's been only just above freezing, the snow had been melting during our walk around the park. It remained on this wet and rotten fallen tree but had disappeared from areas around.
