St Enoder Church
The village which used to surround this church has long since gone. It was replaced by the new settlement of Summercourt about a mile to the south. Just a farm and a couple of houses are left surrounding the church.

St Enoder - Twelfth century font
This font dating from the C12th (at the latest) predates the church which houses it by at least 200 years - this is not particularly unusual as fonts seem to often survive the reconstruction of their church, but perhaps suggests that there was an earlier church on this site. At each cardinal point there is a head or 'mask' on the rim of the bowl - but only the one seen here (eastern) has avoided damage - see a close-up of it here Image Close-up of the base scrolls here: Image]

St Enoder - Bells in loft
A view into the bell loft of St Enoder. The bells are situated unusually low down in the lofty tower of the church, and were probably relocated here from higher up the tower after its collapse in 1686. [Edit] I have just discovered that the bells were actually lowered to their current position as recently as 2006 as it was deemed dangerous to ring them in their original elevated position. There are a total of eight bells - I believe the one seen prominently in the centre of this image is the Tenor Bell with a rim diameter of about 3'6". It seems that the bells are not that old however, dating from the early C20th. It would seem likely therefore that they replaced some earlier bells - perhaps these were damaged by the tower's collapse. See http://saint-enoder-bells.blogspot.com for more information about the lowering of the bells.

St Enoder - from the west
Looking at St Enoder church from its churchyard near to its western gate. The fine tower was rebuilt in 1711 after its collapse 25 years earlier which also damaged part of its western end, particularly the south aisle. See shared description below:
