Stained glass window, St Nicholas, New Romney
In memory of the crew and passengers of the ship Northfleet which foundered off Dungeness, 22nd January 1873. She was bound for Hobart, and carried 379 persons on board. Bad weather forced her to drop anchor off Dungeness. About 10:30 pm a steamer collided with her, found to be the Spanish ship Murillo, and Northfleet sunk within half an hour. 293 people were drowned. The Captain went down with his ship. Glass by Clayton & Bell, 1875.
