The Horse Statue in Hawick
This memorial is known locally as “The Horse”. It was unveiled in 1914 to mark the 400th anniversary of the young men of Hawick thwarting an English raid on the town. It shows a young lad, a “Callant” returning to the town with a captured banner.

The Horse Statue in Hawick
This statue was unveiled in 1914 to mark the 400th anniversary of the young men of Hawick thwarting an English raid on the town. Many adult males had been killed in the Battle of Flodden in 1513 leaving only boys to defend their town. This statue shows a young lad returning to the town with a captured banner.

This Horse Statue in Hawick was unveiled in 1914. It marked the 400th anniversary of the young men of Hawick thwarting an English raid on the town. It shows a young lad, a Callant, returning to the town with a captured banner. At the other end of the High Street there is a newer statue unveiled in 2014 to commemorate the 500th anniversary.
