Millers of Melrose Butchers shop window
A view into the window of this shop Image Note the sign at the upper left, Eildon Hill Haggis for Burns Night 25th Jan, and some of the beasties hanging up below the yellow carrier bags. I was tempted, but I prefer farm reared haggis to the wild variety.

A seat outside Millers of Melrose Butchers
The seat is by the front door of this shop Image] that specialises in local haggis. The wording on the seat is as follows:- FERGUS BRAWBUCKET 1814-1868 CHAMPION HAGGIS HUNTER 79,471 COCK 54,212 HEN EILDON HILLS MELROSE 1842 “Nice to Meat You Today” Eildon Hill Haggis…. “They’re Awfie Gid!” 1842 was obviously a glorious season with 133,683 haggis bagged on the nearby Eildon Hills. Numbers have fallen dramatically over the years to the present day estimate of 200, caused no doubt by climate change and global warming.

A window display in Millers of Melrose
This JK Rowling display makes reference to her book Career of Evil, a Cormoran Strike Novel. The text in the upper right frame reads: Exert taken from JK Rowling’s book Career of Evil a Cormoran Strike Novel Later after she had left with renewed tears and thanks, after he paid the bill, Strike walked to Millers of Melrose, a family butcher he had noticed on his stroll around the town. There he treated himself to some venison pies that he suspected would be far tastier than anything he would be able to purchase at the station before boarding the sleeper back to London This book is shortly to be made into a film. The official Venison, Ale and Mushroom Pies are only available at this shop. For a view of the shop front, see Image
