A track in the dust
The large gravel car park does not deter the pedestrians as they walk from Angel Place shopping centre to Blacklands. This area is the site of the old and much-loved Bridgwater Splash swimming pool. It was opened in 1991 by Princess Diana and was popular with the community. However, as costs and repairs mounted, Sedgemoor Council decided to close it down, with the promise of a new one to be built elsewhere. But the money ran out sooner than expected and so the centre was shut before the new one was opened - contrary to what was originally announced, causing much protest. Splash closed in 2009 and was levelled, leaving this grey expanse.
