Looking out of the castle gate, Shrewsbury
The half-timbered building ahead is Castle Gates House which dates from the late 16th century and is grade II* listed. The house was moved here from Dogpole (where it occupied the site that is now the Guildhall) in around 1702. Behind that is the former Presbyterian chapel of St Nicholas which was built in 1870. It ceased to be used for worship in the 1970s and is now a hotel.

Castle Gates House, Castle Gates, Shrewsbury
Showy bit of black-and-white, now more brown-and-yellow. It origins are late C16th but much of what we now see belongs to alterations c1912. These include the door and the canted bays at each end. It was moved from Dogpole to its present location c1702. Grade II* listed.

Castle Gates House, Castle Street, Shrewsbury
According to Historic England who list it grade II* (list entry 1246555), the 16th century house was originally built on Dogpole, and moved to its present position c.1702 by the Earl of Bradford. The Revd Edmund Dana (1739-1823), who gave his name to a nearby street, lived at Castle Gates House, and it had a major restoration c1912. It appears still to be in residential use, though possibly subdivided.
