The Quarry park Lodge, Shrewsbury
Built in the late 1880s, and home for many years to Percy Thrower, the well-known local horticulturist, early pioneer of gardening programmes on the telly, and park superintendent for the town borough council. The lodge attracted a Grade II listing https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101058985-lodge-to-the-quarry-shrewsbury#.XJfbSij7TIU in 1972.

The Quarry park entrance gates
The rather spectacular, and well-kept, gates to the park were cast in Coalbrookdale at the famous foundry belonging to the Darby family, and presented to the Shrewsbury Horticultural Society in 1881. They were Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101059007-gates-to-the-quarry-shrewsbury#.XJfaMCj7TIU in 1972.

Gates, The Quarry, Shrewsbury
Cast and wrought iron gates at the entrance to the park opposite the church. Plaques state that they were "presented by the Shropshire Horticultural Society to the town of Shrewsbury 1881" and that they were cast by the Coalbrookdale Company. Grade II listed. They appeared to have been fairly recently renovated.

Quarry Lodge and Gates
In the foreground on Claremount Bank is a George VI postbox Image Behind the wall is the Grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1058985 Quarry Lodge built in the 1880s for the Parks Superintendent. From 1946 to 1974 it was the home of Percy Thrower who then held that position It is now the headquarters of the Shropshire Horticultural Society. On the left are the Grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1059007 Quarry Gates cast at Coalbrookdale and dated 1881 with the initials SHS for the Shrewsbury Horticultural Society.

Quarry Lodge, Quarry Park, Shrewsbury
The lodge is alongside blue gates at the park entrance from St Chad's Terrace. Now the headquarters of the Shropshire Horticultural Society, the lodge was built in 1887 for the Parks Superintendent. A blue oval plaque on a wall records that Percy Thrower MBE, VMH (1913-1988) lived here from January 1946 until April 1974 while Parks Superintendent for Shrewsbury Borough Council. He was the first TV celebrity gardener.
