Wandle Pumping Station
This appears to be the only operational building remaining in the disused Thames Water sewage treatment works in Merton. I presume that after treatment was abandoned on this site in 1971 [source: Merton borough website, page later removed], the sewage was pumped to another works (or maybe into the south London trunk sewer for treatment at Crossness?)

Disused building, Merton STW
A building in the disused Thames Water sewage treatment works in Merton. The high standard of brickwork detailing is typical of 19th / early 20th century municipal engineering. This site was up for sale with development potential as of 2011, and none of the buildings is listed, so it will probably be demolished before long.
