Ena Road, Pollards Hill
Pollards Hill occupies the highest point in Norbury and on a clear day the view stretches to Windsor Castle. It was originally part of the Great North Wood and the name 'Pollard' derives from this connection. Some of the neighbouring roads also have good views. This is Ena Road. St Helier Hospital is on the horizon immediately behind the telegraph pole.

View from Pollards Hill
Pollards Hill occupies the highest point in Norbury and on a clear day the view stretches to Windsor Castle. It was originally part of the Great North Wood and the name 'Pollard' derives from this connection. The road layout of Pollards Hill was shown on maps of 1868 with two avenues of trees. Pollards Hill had been left as an open space as the surrounding estate developed and it was given to Croydon Council in 1913 by Sir Frederick Ederidge. A pedestal was erected on the summit of the hill to show the direction of various local landmarks but the direction pointer on the top has disappeared. The part here to the west was opened in the 1980s, having previously been allotments. Thickets of native trees and shrubs have been planted. The view in this direction takes in Crown House at Morden on the horizon towards the left of the photograph, whilst the Wimbledon ridge is also on the horizon, just to the left of the houses.

Foggy view from Pollards Hill
As seen from the open-space area of the recreational ground of Pollards Hill. Looks west over Mitcham. Sadly, when I climbed up the hill, a low damp cloud over London, obscured the far views.
