Roehampton: Bank of England Sports Club
The jobsworth on the gate refused permission for me to enter the grounds to photograph this building (which dates from 1907) from the front, so I annoyed him by photographing it quite legally from Bank Lane, a public road.

New houses along Roehampton Gate
Despite having some of the best 1930s houses in London, they have razed the entire side to the ground and put up what can only be described as Victorian asylums. Luckily the other side is intact, I have known this road most of my life and had a terrible shock. They are doing the same in North London around similar roads in Highgate as well as the rest of SW London near here, and others further out in the stockbroker belt of Surrey around Oxshott. A fashion may only last a few years but with houses the results can last for centuries.

Roedean Crescent, SW15
Looking south from Bank Lane. At the beginning of the present century most of the properties in Roedean Crescent dated from between the wars - large, but cosily suburban. In the last 15 years much of the street has been redeveloped, mostly one plot at a time, and the old mock-Tudor style has largely disappeared.
The houses on the west (right-hand) side of the street back on to Beverley Brook.

Roehampton: Roehampton Gate
Roehampton Gate can mean one of two things: Either this road seen here, or the actual gate into Richmond Park. Make no mistake, you need serious bread if you want to live here - one of the most exclusive areas of London.
