At this point in the race the riders had put all but a few kilometres behind them - having left Richmond Park they were about to turn into the South Circular road. Seen here are riders in the middle of the main bunch. In the centre of the picture, the rider in Spanish colours is José Joaquín Rojas, while almost alongside him - on an orange-red bike and wearing peacock blue - is the Kazakh rider Assan Bazayev, team-mate of the eventual gold-medalist.

This is the main bunch on the homeward leg, more than 5 hours after they passed this way on their way out of London http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3056310. There's a gallant Team GB rider (I'm pretty sure it's Wiggins) making the pace, with three German riders and one of his own team-mates tucked in behind him. But a breakaway group of about 30 riders (none of them British) had gone through about a minute before (it seemed far longer) - and the chase was in vain. I think it's clear from the photo that marshalling along this stretch was not all it should be for an international road race - the road is narrow enough in any case, and yet there are feet in the roadway on both sides. I have since heard it said that when they saw the Priory wall on the outward leg, a number of riders hopped off their bikes 'pour faire pipi', in true continental road-race fashion.

Who specialise in caring for and educating children with autistic spectrum disorders, in particular Asperger’s Syndrome and associated learning difficulties.
