At this point in the race the riders had put all but a few kilometres behind them - having left Richmond Park they were about to turn into the South Circular road. Seen here are riders in the middle of the main bunch. In the centre of the picture, the rider in Spanish colours is José Joaquín Rojas, while almost alongside him - on an orange-red bike and wearing peacock blue - is the Kazakh rider Assan Bazayev, team-mate of the eventual gold-medalist.
