Old Library, Stafford
Built 1912-14 as a free library for the town, it served until 1998 when it was moved to a new location in the town. It then became a performing arts centre until 2011 when it was sold for development as a restaurant. It has since remained empty. Listed Grade II. There is a bench mark http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5510006 on the near corner to the left of the lamp post.

Apollo Cinema, Newport Road
This is Stafford's only surviving working cinema. The nearby Picture House having been converted to a pub! The Apollo is relatively small and has five screens. It belongs to Apollo Cinemas Limited, who claim to be the UK's largest independent cinema chain, which isn't as impressive as it sounds, as they have just 13 cinemas. However the one at Stafford does get to screen most of the blockbuster films. The cinema now has the distinction of being the oldest working cinema in Staffordshire, having been showing films for over 60 years. Image

Some good news at last
Not all pubs are closing. The Sun Inn, for years the market tavern for the old cattle market which occupied the site behind it is getting a new lease of life. After various unsatisfactory incarnations including an Irish theme bar and 'Tequila Red' it is to revert to being the Sun - a proper pub to be run by the local Titanic Brewery.
