Built 1912-14 as a free library for the town, it served until 1998 when it was moved to a new location in the town. It then became a performing arts centre until 2011 when it was sold for development as a restaurant. It has since remained empty. Listed Grade II. There is a bench mark http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5510006 on the near corner to the left of the lamp post.
