Institute of Technology across balancing pond, Stafford
The Institute of Technology is nearing completion and is due to open in March 2025. The balancing pond was created about 30 years ago to retain runoff rain water which might otherwise cause flooding in Stafford town centre. It is full in this image owing to heavy rain over the previous 48 hours.

The Institute of Technology, Castle Street, Stafford is built on the site of the former Stafford railway steam engine shed. It is operated by Newcastle and Stafford College Group (NSCG). In recent years the site has been occupied by various businesses. The engine shed was occupied by various training departments of NSCG. The whole site was cleared in 2023 to make way for the Institute.
The architects are EllisWilliams and the construction firm is Speller Metcalfe.
The building work is now complete and the building is ready for occupancy.

Electricity Sub-station, Castle Street, Stafford
An operational electricity sub-station on Castle Street, Stafford. The sub-station was built before nationalisation as the light brown concrete panels above the door top read Corporation Electricity Department - the corporation being Stafford Borough Council. Councils generated electricity not just for their own area but also for surrounding areas. The building has been subject to vandalism - a pitched roof has been replaced by a flat roof as it was damaged on several occasions by rocks thrown on to the former tiled pitched roof.
