Ordnance Survey bolt on Castle Church
This bench mark was established some time around 1858 during the First primary levelling of England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 331.3080 feet [100.9827 metres] above mean sea level (Liverpool datum). It was included on the Llandysilio to Stafford levelling line. The surveyor's description was No. 108. Bolt in South-west angle of Castlechurch Church tower ; 2.90 ft. above surface (p588).

Near Stafford Castle
The remains of the house platforms and hollow ways of the hamlet that clustered at the gates of the medieval castle can still just be found in this field between the castle and Castle church.

Castlechurch, Stafford
So named because it was the church associated with Stafford Castle. It is also called St Mary's. Here it is viewed from Castle Bank which is the main road into Stafford, across some of the houses fronting the road.
