Etruria Hall
Etruria Hall was built for the legendary potter Josiah Wedgwood between 1768 and 1771. By the early twentieth century it presented an extraordinary sight, a Georgian mansion isolated amongst heavy industry and slagheaps. The building was given Grade II listed status in 1973 and restored as part of the 1986 Garden Festival. It was later incorporated into the Moat House hotel http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5146313

Etruria Hall, Stoke-on-Trent
A fine brick house built for Josiah Wedgwood by Derby architect Joseph Pickford, c1770. The wings were added later. Grade II listed.
Writing in 1974, Pevsner commented that Wedgwood, "could look across landscape to the canal, inspired by him, and the works, built by him. Now that view is desolation." The Wedgwood buildings have gone forever, but since that was written some inroads appear to have been made into the desolation. The house itself is now a Best Western hotel.
